2023 Dodge Hornet RT Overview

Dodge has announced that for the 2023 model year, the Hornet will be available as either the GT or R/T PHEV, with the possibility of additional trims being added later on. The new Hornet models come with a host of standard features that are highly desirable, including a large 10.3-inch infotainment display, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 17-inch aluminum wheels, rain-sensing windshield wipers, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Those living in areas with colder climates may want to splurge on the Cold Weather Group package, which provides heated seats, a heated steering wheel, and remote start. However, those residing in sunnier locales may opt out of the package and save money.

The Hornet GT model boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that generates 268 horsepower and is mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Dodge claims that this powertrain is powerful enough to launch the Hornet from 0 to 60 mph in 6.5 seconds. On the other hand, the R/T model is the brand’s first plug-in hybrid, featuring a turbocharged 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine coupled with an electric motor that combine to produce 288 horsepower. While the R/T comes with a six-speed automatic transmission instead of the nine-speed automatic in the GT, it does have standard all-wheel drive. The powertrain can also briefly increase output by 30 horsepower using a feature called PowerShot, which is activated by pulling both paddle shifters. According to Dodge, the R/T PHEV can hit 60 mph in just 5.6 seconds when PowerShot mode is engaged. Our team will conduct a comprehensive test drive of these models to provide an accurate assessment of their performance and driving experience, which will be updated accordingly.

Furthermore, the R/T PHEV model is equipped with a 12.0-kWh battery pack that Dodge claims can deliver over 30 miles of all-electric driving range per charge. Charging time using a level 2 charger is estimated to take approximately two and a half hours. By offering these new models, Dodge has effectively demonstrated its continued commitment to producing vehicles that are both eco-friendly and high-performing.
