2023 BMW X1 small SUV earns a TOP SAFETY PICK+ award from the IIHS

The 2023 BMW X1, a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV), has been honored with the prestigious TOP SAFETY PICK+ distinction by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) due to its improved capabilities in detecting pedestrians.

In order to attain the elevated TOP SAFETY PICK+ accolade for the year 2023, a vehicle must achieve excellent ratings in various critical assessments, such as the driver-side small overlap front test, the passenger-side small overlap front test, the updated side test, and the original moderate overlap front test. Additionally, the presence of acceptable or good headlights across all trim levels is required, and the vehicle must offer a front crash prevention system that receives advanced or superior ratings in both the daytime and nighttime evaluations for vehicle-to-pedestrian crash avoidance.

On the other hand, the lower-tier TOP SAFETY PICK distinction can be obtained with an acceptable rating solely in the updated side test, and the vehicle must exhibit advanced or superior performance specifically in the daytime pedestrian test.

For the 2023 model year, the X1 has undergone a redesign that fulfills all the prerequisites for the coveted “plus” classification. Notably, unlike its previous generation which received no recognition in the comparatively easier daytime pedestrian test, the 2023 model is equipped with a standard front crash system that garners superior ratings in both the daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations. Moreover, all trims of the 2023 X1 come equipped with good-rated LED projector headlights as a standard feature.
