Volkswagen Golf R 333 Sells Out In Eight Minutes

Last week, Volkswagen surprised us all with the introduction of the Golf R 333 in Germany, sporting a jaw-dropping price tag of 76,410 Euros. Despite its record-breaking price, the limited-run special edition managed to sell out in a mere eight minutes.

Stefan Voswinkel, Head of Product Communications at VW, took to LinkedIn to share this information with the public. The fact that customers were willing to shell out such a large sum for a Golf illustrates the power of brand loyalty, as people now prioritize allegiance to a particular make and model over the comparison of technical specifications. To put things into perspective, for the price of the Golf R 333, a customer in Germany could have opted for an Audi RS3 in Sportback form. Audi’s website boasts a total of 158 new car listings, with the most affordable option retailing for 66,111 Euros, making it approximately 10,000 Euros cheaper than the Golf R 333.

Restricted to the German market, this special hot hatch features a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine that churns out an impressive 328 horsepower and 309 pound-feet of torque.

Given the increasingly stringent emissions regulations, it is doubtful that we will witness a more potent Golf R in the European Union any time soon. The R 333 was exclusively available in Germany as a follow-up to the 2022 Golf R 20 Years Edition. While VW only offered it as a five-door hatchback, the regular Golf R can also be purchased as a wagon in the EU and select other markets.
