Rolls Royce Droptail Amethyst Interior Cabin Tour

Rolls-Royce Amethyst Droptail marks a celebration of the meticulously chosen materials and artistry handpicked by the client and their family. This journey into material selection commenced with a striking Calamander Light open-pore wood sample provided by the client. This wood boasts an intricate texture and displays lengthy streaks of color.

Drawing inspiration from the tones present in the initial wood sample, the vehicle’s leather treatment was conceived. The harmoniously contrasting leather, aptly named Sand Dunes, was meticulously developed to harmonize with the caramel streaks on the Calamander Light open-pore wood. Subsequently, a challenge was extended to wood experts, tasking them with discovering wood with bands in an exact hue as the leather. This undertaking demanded over six months of exploration, leading the specialists to review in excess of 100 logs before pinpointing the perfect piece.

Introducing the primary leather tone, christened Amethyst, which complements the outer facade and is adorned with a delicate pearlescent finish. This finish draws parallels with the sparkling brilliance of the precious gemstone that lends its name to the motor car.

The saga of Amethyst Droptail sees Rolls-Royce present their most expansive wooden surface area to date. This wood material not only graces the vehicle’s fascia and doors but extends to the shawl panel, the cantilevered ‘plinth’ center armrest, and even onto the aft deck.

As wood found its place on the aerodynamically functional aft deck, the collaboration between the brand’s aerodynamicists and wood experts took center stage. Their combined efforts ventured beyond mere form, delving into diverse wood-grain textures and the exact angle of veneer placement. The outcome is a true work of art, boasting the world’s sole ‘raw’ wooden surface that contributes downforce to a novel roadworthy automobile.

Amethyst Droptail gave birth to a brand-new veneering technique, conceived exclusively for this marvel. Each veneer sheet was turned upside down to expose the unprocessed wood texture. Two distinct techniques merged harmoniously: ‘bookmatching’ at a 55-degree angle, where wood sheets replicate each other, and ‘slip-matching’, aligning wood sheets side by side sequentially to forge a recurring grain pattern. This technique imparts an organic, natural effect, conjuring the illusion of a solitary wood piece.

The interior wood components of Amethyst Droptail were subjected to rigorous testing, ensuring its adaptability to varying climates across the globe. Over 150 samples endured more than 8,000 hours of testing before final assembly. Rigorous trials included simulations of sunlight exposure and assessments of rain resistance, coupled with tests to gauge durability within temperatures spanning from +80°C to -30°C. The deck’s unique protective coatings, specifically developed for this masterpiece, have been granted their own patent.

Elevating the interior treatment further, the client’s request for a touch of elegance was fulfilled: the rotary dials were adorned with precious amethyst gems. Much like the gems adorning the base of the Spirit of Ecstasy figurine, these gems were fashioned in a convex cabochon style, departing from the usual faceted approach. These gemstones possess remarkable depth and clarity, often reserved for the realm of exquisite jewelry. Each stone underwent scrutiny by the client’s experts before being granted personal approval by the client. To complete the interior ensemble, woven leather floormats make their appearance—a subtle homage to the age-old weaving traditions found in the souks of the client’s homeland.
