Porsche is in the process of preparing a new 718 Boxster Spyder RS, which not only appears the part but also sounds the part, as per a recent spy video. The footage shows the high-performance convertible driving around the infamous Nurburgring while capturing the sound of its exhaust note, which is intensely raspy and loud.

While it is unclear which engine will power the new car, it seems highly likely that Porsche will employ its naturally aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six engine, which offers a 9,000-rpm redline and currently propels the 911 GT3, generating 493 horsepower and 331 pound-feet of torque. This powerful engine should enable the Boxster Spyder RS to reach 60 miles per hour, albeit slightly slower than the Cayman GT4 RS, which can accomplish the feat in 3.2 seconds.

Without any camouflage, the most recent spy shots of the car reveal it wearing the Weissach Pack, which Porsche initially introduced on the 918 Spyder. This pack includes lightweight components that help to reduce the car’s overall weight.

Compared to the standard Boxster, the new car looks significantly more aggressive, with several prominent performance features such as NACA ducts in the hood, front fender vents, center-lock wheels, and small ducts on the rear quarter panels. These last features likely assist in feeding more air to the engine.

The car will arrive with a fabric roof, and while we haven’t yet spied the interior, it is possible that the cabin could feature a few RS-specific touches. However, interested buyers should expect a price tag of over six figures, so start saving now.

Porsche has yet to reveal when the hotter Boxster will make its debut, but enthusiasts are eagerly awaiting its arrival. With its impressive performance and attractive design, it will be a fantastic addition to the Boxster lineup, sitting above the 718 Spyder, which boasts a 420 horsepower engine.
