New 2024 Mercedes Benz E Class In Detail

Mercedes-Benz, the renowned automaker, is set to release its latest creation, the 2024 E-Class, which promises to be a game-changer in the industry. The vehicle boasts a fusion of progressive exterior design and inherited engines, all enveloped within a trailblazing interior teeming with screens and cameras. The 2024 E-Class features up to five screens and cameras, depending on the chosen options, which is a substantial upgrade from its predecessor.

Under the hood, the engines share much with their predecessors. The E 350 remains equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, now with an added small electric motor, transforming it into a mild hybrid. The power output stands at 255 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, with an additional 20 hp achievable via a boost function. On the other hand, the E 450’s turbocharged inline-six also sports a mild hybrid system, pushing power up to 375 hp, generating 369 lb-ft of torque, with a 20-hp boost option available. As of yet, Mercedes-Benz has not disclosed the vehicle’s performance and efficiency ratings, nor has a plug-in hybrid version been made available in the United States.

For the North American market, Mercedes initially presents two trims: the E 350 and E 450. The vehicle’s dimensions have been slightly tweaked, with almost an inch added to its length and a half-inch extension in the wheelbase, resulting in marginally increased headroom and an additional half-inch of rear legroom. The elbow width is also comparable to the S-Class. Both trims feature the 4MATIC AWD powertrain, an improved version of the 9-speed automatic transmission, and either a familiar four-cylinder or inline-six engine, depending on the chosen trim.

However, the real novelty lies in the interior, where Mercedes has gone above and beyond to provide a truly immersive experience. Back in February, Mercedes offered a sneak peek of the new E-Class interior, replete with images and a brief rundown of features. The MBUX Superscreen pervades all E-Class trims, closely resembling the EQE’s standard layout. It showcases a separate driver display melding into the central screen, with two display styles available: Sporty and Classic.

Opting for the MBUX Premium Plus package adds a passenger screen that activates when the passenger seat is occupied, allowing full visibility for passengers while remaining concealed from the driver to minimize distraction. The E-Class interior can host up to five cameras, with the standard configuration including a mono camera to ensure the driver’s eyes remain on the road. Additional options include a stereo camera setup to enhance driver-assist systems, a gesture camera within the overhead control panel for the MBUX Interior Assistant, a dash cam, and a selfie cam designed for on-the-go video conferences.

The E-Class also boasts an optional 3D driver display that employs a stereoscopic effect, creating a sense of depth. Another optional feature is Active Ambient Lighting, which syncs soft LED interior lights with the Burmester sound system.

Mercedes emphasizes that the E-Class prioritizes software over hardware, which is why the sedan runs on a single computer system that accommodates third-party apps. Launch offerings include entertainment apps like Angry Birds, video conferencing apps such as Webex and Zoom, the Vivaldi web browser, and even TikTok, all in addition to vehicle-related functions.

To help drivers navigate the plethora of E-Class features, Mercedes has enhanced its voice command system. When driving solo, the “Hey Mercedes” prompt is no longer required, and the advanced AI system learns driver routines over time for seamless implementation. Drivers can also establish their own routines, encompassing climate settings, lighting preferences, and more.
