MG Cyberster Electric Sports Car Specs Revealed With 536 HP And 535 Torque

In the year 2021, MG initially introduced the Cyberster as a concept. This happened before the SAIC-owned brand proudly displayed the finalized version earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. However, the unveiling of its intriguing technical specifications had to wait until today. This occurred on the occasion of the electric roadster’s debut at the Chengdu Motor Show in China.

The core of this two-seater sports vehicle houses a duo of electric motors that collaborate to produce a combined 536 horsepower along with 535 pound-feet of torque. Such power packs quite a punch, enabling a swift 0 to 62 mph acceleration in a mere 3.2 seconds. Contained within is a 77-kWh battery pack that promises a range of 360 miles. Nevertheless, it’s important to note that this range is established according to the China light-duty vehicle test cycle (CLTC). If we were to consider the equivalent WLTP figure, it would be somewhat lower. Moreover, the range would inevitably decrease further if we were to imagine a hypothetical US-spec Cyberster assessed by the EPA.

This is the extent of the information that MG is currently willing to unveil. However, in April, a submission to China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) included supplementary particulars. As expected for an electric vehicle, the Cyberster does carry a substantial weight, tipping the scales at 4,376 pounds. This is notable for a roadster that measures 178.5 inches in length, 75.31 inches in width, and 52.32 inches in height. Its wheelbase stretches to 105.9 inches. It’s important to emphasize that this open-top sports car, complete with scissor doors, stands distinct from a competitor like the Mazda MX-5 Miata.

MG also has intentions to market a slightly lighter variant with rear-wheel drive. This version will feature a solo motor that generates over 300 horsepower. Its energy will be drawn from a more compact 64-kWh battery. According to the same CLTC standard, this rear-wheel-drive Cyberster is projected to cover a distance of 323 miles.

MG’s Chinese website dedicates a page to the Cyberster, discussing noteworthy features like Brembo brakes furnished with four-piston fixed calipers. It also highlights a “highly rigid” rollbar. An interesting point is that the vehicle received fine-tuning courtesy of Italian F1 engineer Marco Fainello. Inside the car, occupants can enjoy the presence of Bose speakers. Additionally, the infotainment system is fueled by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip. This system also benefits from graphics powered by Unreal Engine 4.0.

Specifics regarding pricing continue to be concealed, and the regions where MG intends to distribute the car beyond China and the UK remain unclear. Within the People’s Republic, there is a belief that the starting price could hover around $33,000, rising to $37,000. This is notably affordable for an electric sports car. On the other hand, in other regions, it’s reasonable to anticipate that the Cyberster will come with a substantially higher price tag.
