Mercedes G500 V8 Final Edition Revealed

Mercedes bids farewell to the V8 engine inside the G500 as downsizing takes its toll. In its Final Edition, the renowned German luxury brand is saying goodbye to the eight-cylinder powertrain in the G500, as the upcoming 2024 model year will introduce a smaller six-cylinder engine. This marks the end of an era, three decades after the debut of the 500 GE V8, the original G-Class boasting a robust V8.

Limited to only 500 units, the Final Edition is available in Obsidian Black, Opalith White Magno, and Olive Magno color options. Each variant comes adorned with a distinctive “Final Edition” decal, and the spare wheel cover receives an elegant chrome contour. Additionally, the off-roader boasts 20-inch AMG wheels with a striking double-spoke design, finished in body color for the Olive Magno version, while the other two colors feature black wheels. The exterior upgrades are completed by the embossed logos on the doorknobs.

Once you step inside, you’ll be greeted by the illuminated “G” logo and the phrase “Stronger than time” projected onto the floor. The same message is also applied to the indoor car cover that accompanies the last G500 V8. The door sill trims and grab handles proudly display the “Final Edition” lettering, which is also featured on the back of the key.

To indulge its occupants, Mercedes has lavished the cabin with Nappa leather, covering nearly every surface. Yes, that includes the cargo compartment and the panel housing the seat adjustment switches. As an extra treat, the Final Edition comes equipped with the Burmester surround sound system, two-tone seats, and a leather headliner with a center section that mirrors the center of the seats, showcasing elegant diamond stitching.

Under the hood, there are no changes as the twin-turbo, 4.0-liter V8 continues to produce an impressive 416 horsepower (310 kilowatts) and 610 Newton-meters (449 pound-feet) of torque. Mercedes plans to produce these final V8-powered G500 units from September to March 2024.

While the combustion-engined G-Class will still be available for the time being, Mercedes is expanding its lineup with the introduction of the fully electric EQG. Based on the same platform, the EQG will retain the iconic boxy styling, providing a new era for the beloved G-Class.
