Mercedes AMG ONE New Record on the Nürburgring

In an impressive feat, Mercedes-AMG has shattered its own record at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. On September 23, 2024, DTM driver Maro Engel set a new lap record in the Mercedes-AMG One, finishing in just 6 minutes and 29.09 seconds. This surpasses his previous record from October 2022, which stood at 6 minutes and 35.18 seconds. The record was achieved on the longer 12.92-mile (20.83-kilometer) layout of the track, making the AMG One the first street-legal car to break the 6:30 mark.

Unlike the earlier attempt, where the track was damp in some sections, this recent run took place in optimal conditions. With temperatures at 68 degrees Fahrenheit (20 degrees Celsius) on the asphalt and 59 degrees Fahrenheit (15 degrees Celsius) in the air, Engel completed the record-breaking lap during his third timed attempt.

Although Mercedes has not disclosed the lap time on the shorter 12.8-mile (20.6-kilometer) layout this time around, the improvement on the longer course speaks for itself. As far as competition goes, only a few hypercars might be able to challenge this new record, including the Aston Martin Valkyrie, McLaren W1, or Ferrari’s upcoming LaFerrari successor. Electric hypercars, such as Rimac’s Nevera R, may have potential, but it remains to be seen if they can handle the demands of the Nürburgring’s length.

Overall, this achievement cements the AMG One as one of the fastest street-legal production cars in the world.
