Hyundai Motor Manufacturing to Enhance SUV and 2024 Santa Fe Production

Alabama’s Governor Kay Ivey and leaders hailing from the City of Montgomery, Montgomery County, and the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce have teamed up with Hyundai Motor Manufacturing, LLC (HMMA) President and CEO, Ernie Kim, to make a groundbreaking announcement. Brace yourselves for the news that HMMA is committing a whopping $290 million to ramp up the production of Hyundai’s much-loved sport utility vehicles. In an intricate breakdown, this hefty sum entails a noteworthy $190 million reserved exclusively for the enhancement of tools and equipment. Why, you ask? To expertly gear up for the manufacturing of the much-anticipated fifth generation Santa Fe.

In Ernie Kim’s own words, “Today, the legacy of the Santa Fe continues with HMMA investing $190 million dollars to prepare our assembly plant for the next generation of this popular SUV.” But wait, there’s more! An additional injection of a cool $100 million dollars is being funneled into ensuring that the production lines keep humming for the Tucson SUV and the Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle.

Governor Ivey, a staunch supporter of this move, remarks, “Hyundai’s nearly 4,000 Alabama employees have been making some of the highest awarded vehicles in America for nearly two decades, and the production of the completely re-designed Santa Fe mid-size SUV is another exciting milestone for the company’s Montgomery manufacturing facility.” Her enthusiasm for the company’s growth is palpable as she eagerly anticipates the sleek new Santa Fe gracing the roads, not just in Alabama but across the nation.

Montgomery Mayor Steven L. Reed joins the chorus, acknowledging the critical role HMMA plays in the local economic tapestry. In his words, “HMMA is a vital economic engine for not only our city but our state.” It’s not just about vehicles; it’s about fueling jobs, creating opportunities, and propelling the region’s development. This expansion, Reed notes, marks a milestone in their partnership, and he expresses gratitude for HMMA’s sustained success in Montgomery.

Commission Chairman Doug Singleton of Montgomery County echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the symbiotic relationship with HMMA. “Every year that HMMA has been in business in the River Region, Montgomery County has been one of Alabama’s reliable jobs-creation leaders,” he states proudly. This collaborative partnership is worth its weight in gold, as evidenced by the 16 expansions that have taken place at HMMA since its inception, totaling a staggering $3.377 billion investment at the Montgomery plant alone.

The Montgomery Chamber Board Chairman, LaBarron Boone, recognizes the monumental role Hyundai has played in driving the region’s momentum. He points out, “The momentum happening in Montgomery is truly remarkable, with Hyundai being one of our esteemed partners that has played a pivotal role in driving this momentum forward.” Hyundai’s steadfast commitment to growth has not only elevated the local community but also catalyzed progress on a broader scale.

Reflecting on the journey, it’s worth noting that HMMA’s journey with the Santa Fe began in 2006, culminating in its first full model change since 2018. The revamped Santa Fe boasts a striking exterior design, a more spacious cabin, an interior adorned with sustainable materials, and an array of high-tech features, including a captivating 12.3-inch Panoramic Curved Display.

As the assembly lines gear up for action later this year, the all-new Santa Fe will proudly join the ranks of Hyundai’s illustrious lineup, standing shoulder to shoulder with the Tucson SUV, the Santa Cruz Sport Adventure Vehicle, and both the electric and gasoline versions of the opulent Genesis GV70 luxury SUV, all marching in symphony on HMMA’s bustling assembly line.
