Last week marked the highly anticipated debut of the new generation Lexus GX SUV, showcasing one of the most brilliant premieres of the year. This latest iteration boasts a completely revamped design language, specifically tailored for off-road capabilities. Our team decided to envision one of the potential variations of this SUV.
The previous generation GX, renowned for its robustness, has earned a prominent place in the modern automotive market, enduring multiple facelifts during its remarkable 14-year production run. This longevity played a significant role in inspiring a radical transformation in its appearance, as the new GX shares no similarities with its predecessors. Instead, it now evokes comparisons to rugged off-road vehicles, particularly the iconic Land Rover Defender. Undoubtedly, this novelty will serve as the foundation for numerous off-road projects, and we have unveiled one of the potential interpretations.
The rendered SUV prominently features a substantially increased ground clearance, largely achieved through the implementation of large off-road tires on sizable wheels. Its redesigned front bumper incorporates additional lighting, a winch, and a pair of towing eyes. A secondary winch is positioned on the rear bumper, while the roof sports a roof rack with a foldable tent, accompanied by supplementary front and rear headlights.
While the new GX retains its frame structure, it now rests on the GA-F platform, already utilized by the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 and its sister model, the latest-generation Lexus LX. This model continues to offer permanent all-wheel drive and a Torsen interaxial self-locking differential. Replacing the naturally aspirated V8 4.6 engine, which produced 305 horsepower, is a bi-turbo V6 3.5 engine generating 354 horsepower and 650 Nm of torque, paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Additionally, a hybrid variant is expected to join the lineup in the future, featuring a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine, an electric motor, and an 8-speed automatic transmission.
