2025 Porsche Boxster EV Electric Sports Car Testing With Sound

The electric vehicle revolution has been rapidly gaining momentum, with many established car manufacturers shifting their focus towards electric powertrains. Among the big names in the industry, Porsche has been making some significant strides towards electrification, with a new electric sports car set to join their lineup in the near future. Recently, a prototype of the upcoming Porsche 718 Boxster EV was spotted charging at an Ionity station in Europe, providing a sneak peek into the vehicle’s charging capabilities.

While the charging rate observed in the prototype is above average, it falls short of Porsche’s ambitious target of over 270 kW. The forthcoming all-electric Boxster and Macan EVs will be based on Porsche’s currently-in-development Premium Platform Electric (PPE) architecture, which promises to deliver exceptional charging capabilities. The PPE will incorporate an 800-volt battery system, which will enable the vehicle to charge from 5% to 80% in a mere 25 minutes. These charging capabilities are possible due to the 100 kWh gross capacity battery present in the Macan EV.

As Porsche has remained tight-lipped about the upcoming 718 Boxster and Cayman EV duo, we can only speculate about the vehicle’s features. However, with the upcoming Macan EV in mind, we can make some educated guesses. For instance, the Boxster EV might come with a single rear-mounted electric motor as standard, while an all-wheel drive (AWD) setup could be an optional extra. If that’s the case, the new electric Boxster will be the first in the model’s history to feature AWD.

Porsche has already developed an all-electric prototype known as the GT4 e-Performance, which is likely a test bed for the technology that will be used in the upcoming Boxster and Macan EVs. The GT4 e-Performance boasts a maximum power output of 1,088 horsepower, all-wheel drive, and an 82 kWh battery pack, making it an impressive showcase vehicle. However, it’s unlikely that the production version of the Boxster and Macan EVs will have this much power since it would surpass the power of other, more expensive Porsche models.
