The third-generation Volkswagen Tiguan has been unveiled in Europe, with plans for a United States launch next year, utilizing the long-wheelbase version of the vehicle’s platform.
The exterior design maintains its familiar look but incorporates some elements reminiscent of the ID.4 EV, especially the closed upper grille. This model is built on the MQB Evo platform, offering front-wheel drive as the standard option and the possibility of all-wheel drive.
In Europe, Volkswagen is introducing several new powertrain choices, while details about the US options remain undisclosed at this time.
There are two plug-in hybrid variants, offering either 201 or 268 horsepower. These models come with a 19.7-kilowatt-hour battery, providing an electric-only range of up to 62 miles. Charging has been improved with support for 11 kW on AC and up to 50 kW on DC fast chargers.
Mild-hybrid options are also available. The turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine is coupled with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and starter/generator, allowing for cylinder deactivation.
Additionally, the third-gen Tiguan offers a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing either 201 or 262 horsepower. Turbodiesel choices are still part of the lineup, with a 2.0-liter version delivering either 148 or 190 horsepower.
Technological enhancements include an upgraded adaptive chassis control system, working in conjunction with electronic differential locks. There are also two-valve shocks with an adapted control algorithm.
Inside the vehicle, VW introduces a new digital instrument display layout and an updated infotainment system, following the design seen in the ID.4, ID.5, and ID.7 models. Drivers can choose from view modes such as Classic, Progressive, Navigation, and R-Line.
Regarding safety features, the Tiguan offers adaptive cruise control, hill start assist, park distance control, lane keep assist, lane change assist, and more.
Specific technical details for the US version of the Tiguan are yet to be disclosed. We can anticipate more information closer to the vehicle’s US release.
