2024 Toyota Prius Plug in Hybrid Euro Spec

The Toyota Prius embarks on a remarkable journey with its fifth generation, ushering in a captivating new chapter in the realm of engineering innovation and dynamic design. Exclusively available as a Plug-in Hybrid Electric vehicle in Europe, known as the Prius Plug-in Hybrid, this latest iteration continues the trailblazing legacy of its esteemed predecessors by challenging conventional norms once again.

For over twenty-five years, the Prius has left an indelible mark on Toyota and the world as the first mass-produced electrified vehicle, setting the stage for future trends in electric vehicles and making electrified technology accessible to a diverse range of customers.

In its latest evolution, the Prius takes a step further on this journey by introducing advanced electrification through the latest Plug-in Hybrid Electric (PHEV) technology. This complements Toyota’s multi-path approach to achieving carbon neutrality, which has already witnessed the global sale of over 23 million electrified vehicles. Notably, the Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid versions of the Prius alone account for more than 5 million units.

Toyota is firmly committed to offering low-carbon solutions tailored to the specific needs and infrastructure of its customers, ensuring that no driver is left behind on the road to carbon neutrality. As the most powerful and efficient PHEV in its lineup, the new Prius strengthens Toyota’s portfolio, which includes a dedicated focus on battery electric (BEV) and fuel cell electric (FCEV) vehicles. This diverse range of options empowers customers with a wide array of choices to reduce their carbon footprint.

At the heart of the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid lies a combination of true electric vehicle (EV) performance and the convenience of the latest Hybrid technology. With an impressive electric driving range of up to 86 km from its 13.6 kWh battery, the Prius enables fully electric journeys for most daily commutes. On longer trips or in situations where charging is impractical, Toyota’s next-generation Plug-in Hybrid system provides enhanced power output and an ultra-low combined WLTP CO2 emissions rating of just 11 g/km. This represents the lowest emissions ever achieved by a Prius.

Historically, the Prius has been lauded for its efficiency rather than its performance. However, the fifth-generation hybrid technology from Toyota has the capacity to surprise. The new hybrid system enhances the overall driving experience by delivering increased power and greater efficiency. The TNGA 2.0-liter engine generates 152 DIN hp (112 kW) and collaborates with a new 163 DIN hp (120 kW) transaxle front motor, resulting in a total system output of 223 DIN hp (164 kW). This is a significant improvement compared to the previous generation’s Plug-in Hybrid configuration, which offered 122 DIN hp (90 kW). The enhanced output ensures robust and responsive acceleration.

The latest Prius not only offers an unexpected power and acceleration experience but also elevates the joy of driving through improved balance and handling. This is made possible by the second-generation GA-C platform of the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA), which brings a lighter weight and increased rigidity for a more stable ride. The strategic placement of the EV battery beneath the rear seat and the repositioning of the fuel tank lower and further forward compared to the previous generation contribute to enhanced driving dynamics and agility, thanks to a lower center of gravity.

In the pursuit of maximum efficiency, optional solar cells integrated into the roof can generate up to 8.7 kilometers of electric range per day (based on annual sunlight in Nagoya, Japan). Unlike previous models, these solar cells directly charge the plug-in hybrid battery without the need for an additional solar battery. Although the roof size has been reduced, the new solar cells improve overall efficiency by over 15%.

While the Prius has always possessed an eye-catching exterior, the latest generation introduces surprisingly stylish aesthetics. The iconic wedge shape, a Prius trademark since the second generation, has evolved to embrace elegant modern lines. By lowering the overall height by 50 mm, shifting the roof peak rearwards, and adopting larger diameter tires of up to 19 inches, a coupé-like silhouette has been achieved.

Inside the Prius, a spacious cabin combines driving pleasure and practicality, offering a clean and organized layout. The interior exudes a sense of space and is adorned with stylish, high-quality materials. Harmonious design elements enhance the dynamic feel and purposeful ambiance of the cabin.

In addition to delivering unexpected performance, efficiency, and aesthetics, the new Prius pioneers innovative technologies. One such example is the Toyota T-Mate, which integrates the latest generation of Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) and can be conveniently updated over-the-air.
