2024 Porsche 911 GTS Testing All We Know So Far

Porsche’s latest iteration of the iconic 911 Carrera GTS arrived only in 2022, but an updated version of this impressive sports car is already undergoing testing. Although the new version appears to be a mild upgrade, it is likely in conjunction with a planned update for the entire 992-generation line-up, internally referred to as the 992.2 generation. Early prototypes of the upgraded 911 Carrera, 911 GT3, and 911 Turbo models have already been spotted, with the Carrera and Turbo prototypes in some cases testing new hybrid powertrains.

The yellow warning stickers on this latest prototype indicate that a hybrid powertrain may be planned for the updated GTS as well. In March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume confirmed that electrification for the 911 is imminent. He noted that the hybrid setup will be in the vein of the previous 919 Hybrid LMP1 race car, rather than a plug-in hybrid, like the 918 Spyder hypercar. This implies that there will be no plug, and any electric motor-generators will be used solely to support the internal-combustion engine and recover energy during braking.

The powertrain in the current GTS consists of a twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-6, rated at 473 hp and 420 lb-ft. It can be mated to either a 7-speed manual or 8-speed dual-clutch automatic.

Aside from potential powertrain updates, the rest of the car’s modifications will be minor. The prototype sports a new front fascia design, featuring larger intakes with active vertical flaps.

Despite its resemblance to earlier testers for the updated version of the regular Carrera, the center-lock wheels indicate that this prototype is the GTS version.

While the interior of the updated 911 remains undisclosed, we anticipate that a revised dashboard featuring a fully digital instrument cluster, akin to that in the Taycan, will be among the updates.

We anticipate that the upgraded 911 range, including the GTS model, will begin arriving in 2024 as 2024 models. Stay tuned for further details.
