2024 NEW Mercedes E Class Estate Could Be Better than S Class

The era of the versatile and luxurious sport wagon may be facing its twilight, but it has not yet reached its end. Mercedes-Benz is here to reaffirm this by unveiling the sixth-generation E-Class wagon, showcasing a refreshing redesign and an array of innovative technologies.

The latest iteration brings forth a renewed aesthetic and a slight increase in size for the E-Class estate, stretching 0.9 inches longer than its predecessor. This additional length translates to enhanced legroom for passengers occupying the rear seats. Furthermore, an extra 1.1 inches of width provides a spacious environment, allowing for more freedom of movement. Demonstrating its practicality, the cargo capacity expands from 22 cubic feet with the rear seats in place to an impressive 65 cubic feet when the seats are folded down. In terms of style, the E-wagon boasts a fresh front grille design, while the taillights now feature two star-shaped elements, reminiscent of the iconic Mercedes star logo.

Moving to the interior, the 2024 E-Class wagon exudes lavishness, similar to its sedan counterpart. The wagon version comes equipped with two displays as standard, but an advanced three-display “Superscreen” is also available. Just like the standard E-Class, the cabin showcases opulent leather and sleek metal switchgear. The dashboard is adorned with ambient lighting, which harmoniously ties together the entire interior. For an added touch, the optional Active Ambient Lighting package enables the lights to synchronize with the rhythm of the music. Additionally, the light strip can display visual alerts from the driver-assistance systems, effectively warning the driver of potential hazards.

When the optional front-passenger screen is installed, the Superscreen offers extended functionality, allowing passengers to stream videos and play games even while the car is in motion. Mercedes ensures safety by employing a technology that restricts the driver’s view of dynamic content on the screen. The central display of the Superscreen is preloaded with several third-party applications, including popular ones like TikTok, Zoom, and even Angry Birds. Meanwhile, the built-in entertainment system facilitates streaming through a subscription plan. Zoom functionality utilizes the optional selfie and video camera integrated with the Superscreen and requires the vehicle to be stationary for operation.

While some uncertainties remain, it appears that the E450 All-Terrain will be the sole E-Class wagon to make its way across the Atlantic, pending official confirmation from the manufacturer. Mercedes has unveiled a new plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) version, but unfortunately, it seems the company has no plans to offer plug-in hybrids in North America.

Instead, it is more likely that the updated E450 sedan will feature the upgraded 375-horsepower turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six hybrid engine. These hybrid systems aim to minimize turbo lag and provide a smoother operation for the auto start/stop feature. The wagon is also expected to align with the sedan, featuring standard all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Many questions regarding the new E-Class wagon still linger. Pricing details are yet to be announced, and official confirmation of its arrival in America is still pending. European sales are scheduled to commence in the fall, and we can anticipate further information to be revealed prior to the launch.
