2024 Mitsubishi L200/Triton Pickup Truck

After much anticipation and a remarkably long teaser campaign, Mitsubishi has finally revealed the latest iteration of its midsize pickup truck, known as the Triton or L200 in some markets. The sixth-generation Triton boasts a fresh and attractive design, both inside and out, and comes with significant changes, including a newly developed ladder frame. This versatile truck will be available in double cab, club cab, and single cab body styles, each benefiting from a remarkable 60 percent increase in torsional rigidity.

The key to achieving the impressive weight reduction in the new Triton lies in the implementation of a high-tensile steel material for the body. Compared to its previous-generation counterpart, this innovation results in a lighter truck, enhancing overall efficiency. Additionally, the redesign of the carbo bed, which is now lowered by 45 millimeters to 820 millimeters, facilitates easier cargo handling. Moreover, the inclusion of a reinforced frame and a newly added step in the bumper corner further enhances the truck’s practicality.

Without delving into technical intricacies, Mitsubishi affirms that the utilitarian vehicle is now larger than its predecessor, while ensuring that the weight gain has been minimized by utilizing lighter steel materials.

The new Triton offers different configurations, including the Super Select 4WD-II and Easy Select 4WD systems. The former incorporates a center limited-slip differential, intelligently distributing 40 percent of the power to the front wheels and the remaining 60 percent to the rear wheels. This advanced four-wheel-drive system presents drivers with various selectable modes, such as 2H (Rear-Wheel Drive), 4H (4×4), 4HLc (4×4 with a locked center differential), and 4LLc (low-range with locked center differential). Furthermore, the vehicle boasts an impressive selection of seven driving modes: Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand, and Rock, catering to diverse driving conditions.

An entirely revamped suspension system enhances the Triton’s driving dynamics. The front suspension features a new double-wishbone setup, while the rear incorporates a lighter leaf spring configuration. Models equipped with the Super Select 4WD-II system also benefit from Active Yaw Control (AYC), which optimizes cornering by gently applying the brake to the inside front wheel. To ensure a smoother off-road experience, Mitsubishi has also integrated hill descent and hill start assist systems.

Regarding its powertrain, Mitsubishi has currently unveiled its new diesel engine, a 2.4-liter mill available in three different power outputs: 148 horsepower and 243 pound-feet, 181 hp and 316 lb-ft, and the most robust configuration boasting 201 hp and 346 lb-ft of torque. Depending on the chosen power output, the Triton’s engine can be paired with either a six-speed automatic transmission or a shift-by-wire manual transmission, both with the same number of gears.

The 2024 Triton is offered in a striking Yamabuki Orange Metallic paint job, along with other color options such as Blade Silver Metallic, White Diamond, Solid White, Jet Black Mica, and Graphite Gray Metallic. Top-tier versions of the truck feature a body-colored front grille, complemented by a dark titanium finish for certain body components. Additionally, the rally-spec model designed for the Asia Cross Country Rally has been showcased in adjacent images.

Inside the cabin, Mitsubishi has given the Triton’s interior a comprehensive update. Despite this, it still retains analog dials, which adds to its charm and simplicity. The dashboard layout is straightforward and functional, in line with the truck’s workhorse character. Climate settings have their separate controls, and the touchscreen is flanked by two rotary knobs, offering convenient access to essential features. The selector for switching between 2WD and 4WD modes is mounted between the seats, along with a dedicated button for selecting driving modes.

The 2024 Triton has already hit the market in Thailand and will gradually be introduced in ASEAN and Oceania regions, followed by its launch in Japan in early 2024 – marking its return after a 12-year absence.

In conclusion, Mitsubishi’s latest Triton stands out as a feature-packed, performance-driven pickup truck that caters to both practicality and style, making it a compelling choice for drivers seeking a reliable and versatile companion for their daily adventures and challenging terrains.
