2024 BMW X5 M Competition Revealed

Following the debut of the revitalized 2024 BMW X5 and X6 at the start of February 2023, the M Competition versions of the SUVs are set to be unveiled. These models are scheduled to commence production at the automaker’s Spartanburg, South Carolina factory in April 2023, and will have their public debut at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.

In the United States, the X5 M Competition will retail for $123,295, following the $995 destination fee, while the X6 M Competition will be priced at $128,195.

Despite continuing to use a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8, the M Competition variants of the X5 and X6 now come with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance, which incorporates an electric motor with 12 horsepower and 147 pound-feet of torque into the 8-speed automatic transmission. The total output of the refreshed models remains the same as their predecessors, delivering 617 horsepower and 553 pound-feet of torque.

BMW claims that the hybrid assistance will enhance the acceleration of the M Competition models. Additionally, it will lead to increased fuel efficiency, although the brand has yet to provide any precise figures regarding miles-per-gallon.

The V8 engine in these models now features a range of new components, including a cross-bank exhaust manifold, reinforced crankshaft drive, an electrically controlled blow-off valve for the turbos, a revised air intake duct, and a vane-type oil pump. Moreover, an M Sport exhaust comes standard, and this has updated catalytic converters that minimize emissions.

The 2024 X5 and X6 M Competition models can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, which is the same time as the pre-refresh variants. Additionally, they are electronically limited to a top speed of 155 mph, although the optional M Driver’s Package can increase this velocity to 177 mph.

BMW has also upgraded the transmission, which now has shorter gear ratios for the first three cogs. Furthermore, a new cast-aluminum oil sump has cooling fins and a heightened fluid capacity.

The updated M Competition models, like the standard 2024 BMW X5 and X6, feature new, slimmer headlights, with the kidney grilles now completely black. The automaker has also added new exterior colors, including Brooklyn Grey metallic, Isle of Man Green metallic, and Frozen Pure Grey metallic.

Inside, these models are fitted with the BMW Curved Display, which combines a 12.3-inch information screen and a 14.9-inch control monitor into a single bezel. The cabin comes standard with carbon-fiber trim, but buyers have the option to choose other finishes such as Fineline Black or Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood.
