Volkswagen’s latest addition to their vehicle lineup, the T-Roc, has received some noteworthy updates. Drawing inspiration from other VW models like the Polo, Golf, and Tiguan, the T-Roc family now features an LED light bar that runs through the front grille. However, if you opt for the lesser LED setup, the light bar is absent, and a regular grille takes its place. Notably, the fog lights and taillights have also undergone changes, utilizing light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and incorporating dynamic turn signals for an additional fee.

In terms of aesthetics, the Germans have revamped the color choices and redesigned the alloy wheels, which now range from 17 to 19 inches in size. For those seeking a sportier look without the heftier price tag, the R-Line upgrade offers visual enhancements reminiscent of the full-fledged R model.

While some minor adjustments have been made to the bumpers, the overall design of the T-Roc remains largely unchanged. In fact, it would be challenging to differentiate the 2023 model from its pre-facelift predecessor if it weren’t for the distinctive light bar.

Stepping inside the cabin, more substantial modifications become apparent. Even the base model now boasts a digital instrument cluster. The most prominent update can be observed in the center console, where the air vents have been repositioned lower to accommodate the range-topping infotainment system with a generous 9.2-inch display. Lower-priced trims come equipped with either a 6.5- or 8-inch touchscreen.

The T-Roc has embraced Volkswagen’s latest MIB3 infotainment technology, providing the option for wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, the vehicle has adopted touch-sensitive climate controls, following the lead of the refreshed Polo, Tiguan, and Arteon models.

Under the hood, the T-Roc offers familiar engine choices. The lineup begins with a three-cylinder, 1.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine generating 110 horsepower and powering the front wheels. Opting for the larger four-cylinder, 1.5-liter TSI engine increases the power output to 150 horsepower while retaining the front-wheel drive configuration. For those seeking more performance, the 2.0-liter TSI engine delivers 190 horsepower and comes standard with the 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

Volkswagen still recognizes the demand for diesel engines, and thus, the T-Roc offers two 2.0-liter TDI options. One variant produces 115 horsepower and is exclusively available with front-wheel drive, while the other generates 150 horsepower and can be combined with an optional all-wheel drive system. Transmission choices include a six-speed manual gearbox or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, depending on the selected model.

At the pinnacle of the T-Roc range sits the powerful T-Roc R, boasting an impressive 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. With its DSG transmission, 4Motion all-wheel drive, and launch control function, this model accelerates from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.9 seconds. Its quad exhaust system ensures a sporty soundtrack, and the vehicle reaches an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.

While the days of the Golf R Cabriolet are behind us, the T-Roc R is exclusively available as a fixed-roof model. For those desiring an open-top driving experience, the T-Roc Cabriolet offers a three-layer fabric roof but is limited to front-wheel drive and the 1.0- and 1.5-liter TSI engines. Both engine options are paired with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with the option to upgrade to the DSG transmission for the four-cylinder variant.
