2023 Ferrari Formula 1 Car SF23 Revealed

It was an unforgettable St. Valentine’s Day for fervent supporters of Scuderia Ferrari the world over, as the SF23, the motor racing colossus’ challenger for the upcoming Formula 1 season, was unveiled at the Fiorano track in the vicinity of lunchtime. The vehicle, which is the 69th of its kind manufactured by Ferrari to compete in motor racing’s blue riband category, is set to be launched at the Bahrain Grand Prix on the 5th of March.

The day was filled with startling revelations, starting with the appearance of 500 enthusiasts in a grandstand especially erected at the Fiorano track, thus making this the first real launch after two years of virtual car presentations. Prior to the launch, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, the drivers, greeted the crowd, including many members of the various Scuderia Ferrari Clubs and students from Muner, the Motorvehicle University of Emilia-Romagna, as well as a handful from the Alfredo Ferrari Higher Education Institute, along with their educators.

The SF-23, whose nomenclature harks back to the configuration of the Scuderia Ferrari initials combined with the year of competition, as has been the case for most of the hybrid era, was initially seen on video. However, the announcement was made that, for the first time since 2017, the vehicle would be taking to the track on launch day. A coin was tossed by Fred Vasseur, with Leclerc’s and Sainz’s race numbers, 16 and 55, one on each side, to determine which of the two drivers would get behind the wheel first. Charles was the victor and drove the SF23 for its first couple of laps, with Carlos taking his turn soon afterwards.

The SF-23 livery is adorned with some parts in naked carbon, while the historic “long F” logo is visible on the rear wing. The red color is a brand new creation by Ferrari Design: a matt version on the Formula 1 car and glossy on the 499P Hypercar, which will make its endurance racing debut this year.
