Volvo is preparing to launch its next fully electric vehicle, a premium sedan that will likely be named the ES90. This new model is expected to be built on the same platform as the EX90 SUV, which was recently revealed during Volvo’s 90/90 Day event. Chief Executive Officer Jim Rowan hinted at this new model by showing a silhouette during his presentation, suggesting a sleek sedan is in the works.
Although Volvo has not released specific details, the name ES90 strongly indicates it will be an electric sedan, sharing key features with the EX90 SUV, such as its 111 kilowatt-hour battery and a possible range exceeding 300 miles. The sedan will likely compete with other luxury electric vehicles like the BMW i5, Mercedes-Benz EQE, and Audi’s upcoming A6 E-Tron.
One key feature spotted in the teaser is a roof-mounted sensor, which appears to be the same lidar technology used in the EX90. Volvo plans to make this advanced safety feature a standard part of its future electric vehicles.
Volvo aims to have an all-electric lineup by the end of the decade, and the ES90 could be a significant step toward that goal. Expect more information in the coming months.
