Nissan milestones in developing EV and e POWER cars

Nissan, the automobile manufacturer, has recently announced its latest strategy to develop electrified powertrain technology known as “X-in-1”. This approach involves the modularization and sharing of core components of electric vehicle (EV) and e-POWER powertrains, resulting in a significant reduction in development and manufacturing costs. By 2026, Nissan hopes to achieve a 30% reduction compared to the expenses incurred in 2019.

The X-in-1 strategy is aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Nissan’s EV and e-POWER vehicles. As part of this initiative, Nissan has created a 3-in-1 powertrain prototype, which modularizes the motor, inverter, and reducer for EVs. Additionally, a 5-in-1 prototype that modularizes the generator and increaser for use in e-POWER vehicles is also in development.

The X-in-1 approach includes various possible variants of the 3-in-1 and 5-in-1 powertrains and enables the production of EV and e-POWER core components on the same manufacturing line. This integrated approach is intended to streamline production, reduce costs, and ultimately make Nissan’s electrified vehicles more accessible to consumers.

Nissan has been a leader in the EV market since 2010 when it became the first automaker to mass-market the Nissan LEAF. The company has continued to refine its electrification technologies based on feedback from EV customers worldwide. In 2016, Nissan launched its unique e-POWER electrified powertrain, which utilizes its EV technology and provides the same driving experience as an EV, with 100% motor drive.

In conclusion, Nissan’s X-in-1 approach to electrified powertrain development represents a significant step forward in the company’s ongoing efforts to enhance its electrification technologies. With its focus on modularization and sharing of core components, this approach is expected to reduce costs while increasing the competitiveness of Nissan’s EV and e-POWER vehicles in the global market.
