New Porsche Color Dedicated To a Loyal Customer

Porsche, the well-known automobile manufacturer, has recently introduced a new process that involves implementing a customer-specific Paint to Sample Plus colour, marking the first time such a process has been used by the company. In this process, Michael Essmann, a devoted Porsche enthusiast and Managing Director of Elektro Essmann, has had his very own individual colour created within the scope of the Paint to Sample Plus range, resulting in a brilliantly rich green that will join the palette of colours offered by the Porsche Car Configurator.

The newly developed exterior colour, Essmanngreen, colour code 24C, will be available for customers of the 911, 718, and Taycan model lines, starting from March 2023. Unlike the Custom Colour of the 964, which was blended in the After Sales painting process that was standard 30 years ago, the current Essmann Porsche benefits from Porsche’s professionalization of the range of special exterior colours in 2021, which has significantly expanded its capacity. This expansion includes the installation of a new colour-mixing bench at the main plant in Zuffenhausen, where paint specialists blend several dozen ingredients down to the last milligram to achieve the desired shade.

The recipe for Essmanngreen includes over 100 ingredients, including binding agents and additives, that are mixed to the last milligram to achieve the desired shade. The use of different materials for the vehicle’s components, such as aluminium, plastics, carbon, and fibreglass composites, requires slightly different paint compositions and application methods. This means that each batch is divided into two paint pots for bodywork and add-on parts, and a test body and batch comparison plates are painted and used as a colour reference for the final acceptance of the car.

Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur has expanded its range of special exterior colours for all model series with its new Paint to Sample and Paint to Sample Plus options. This extension required the re-development, testing, and approval of all colours, some of which had already been used successfully in the past in the old paint shop. Porsche has restructured its colour range, with “Paint to Sample” replacing “Custom Colour,” a category that includes predefined colours that have already been technically approved by the paint specialists at Porsche.

For those who desire especially individual colour requests, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur offers “Paint to Sample Plus,” which allows almost complete freedom in selecting the paintwork based on a sample submitted by the customer. Michael Essmann, for example, selected not only “Paint to Sample Plus” but also further custom options from the Sonderwunsch programme of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. His personal 911 GT3 Touring 992 has a Porsche logo on the side based on the Porsche Heritage Design models.

It is worth noting that the new processes designed for high quality with the combination of craftsmanship and industrialization required the development of a paint recipe for Essmanngreen on Type 992 because it was last used successfully in the old paint shop for Type 997. By implementing these new processes, Porsche has extended its colour range while simultaneously restructuring it, offering customers an even more customized experience.
