New Look and Power Options for the 2024 Hyundai Kona Unveiled

Hyundai recently unveiled the second generation of its popular Kona crossover SUV, providing a few images without going into much detail. However, an extended photo gallery is now available, along with additional technical specifications. This allows us to take a closer look at the changes made to the vehicle since the original model was first released less than six years ago.

The new Kona will be sold in South Korea with two engine options. The first is a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine, which produces 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque. This engine is paired with a CVT transmission. The second option is a turbocharged 1.6-liter engine that delivers 195 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, along with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

In addition to the traditional gasoline engine options, Hyundai is also offering a hybrid version of the Kona. This version features a bespoke 1.6-liter engine that works in conjunction with an electric motor to provide “impressive acceleration and high efficiency.” The combined output of the hybrid system is rated at 139 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque, sent to the road through a six-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission.

Hyundai plans to release more information about the global model of the Kona in March, including details about the Kona EV.
