New 2024 Volkswagen Touareg Facelift Previewed Ahead Of May Reveal

While it is now time for other car models to undergo their generational updates, the Wolfsburg-based automaker is instead preparing a mid-cycle refresh for the Touareg Mk3, which will make its global debut in May.

The latest iteration of the Touareg will be showcased in its range-topping R guise, and will be outfitted with a light bar that mirrors the design of other VW SUVs, including the recently updated Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport in North America. This wide light strip is bordered by a set of new matrix headlights that feature 38,400 micro LEDs and have the ability to project lane guidance, among other features.

With the facelift, the Touareg will also be fitted with fresh wheel designs that range in size up to 21 inches. The plug-in hybrid performance variant will be furnished with blue brake calipers emblazoned with “R” branding. Meanwhile, the rear of the vehicle will be highlighted by an illuminated VW badge, and a light bar is expected to be revealed on the tailgate once the camouflage has been removed. The front and rear bumpers will also be modified, depending on the trim level.

Despite these updates, the output figures for the vehicle will remain the same. The popular 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine will continue to be offered in two variants, one with 231 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque, and another with a more powerful configuration that offers 286 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque. For those who prefer a gasoline mill, the 3.0-liter V6 engine will offer 340 horsepower and 332 lb-ft of torque.

In terms of electrification, the Touareg eHybrid will offer a combined output of 381 horsepower and 443 lb-ft of torque. For those who desire even more power, the Touareg R eHybrid will provide an output of 456 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque. Both plug-in hybrid electric vehicles will feature a 14.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers an electric range similar to that of the pre-facelift models, which is just under 30 miles.

Regardless of the powertrain, all Touaregs will continue to be equipped with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle will continue to be manufactured in Bratislava, Slovakia, alongside other large SUVs that are built on the MLB platform, such as the Audi Q7 and Q8, Porsche Cayenne and Cayenne Coupe, and the Bentley Bentayga. Interestingly, the body of the Lamborghini Urus is also constructed there.

In conclusion, Volkswagen has decided to update the Touareg Mk3 with a mid-cycle refresh, which will debut in May. While the vehicle will feature several updates and fresh designs, its output figures will remain the same. Regardless of the powertrain, all Touaregs will continue to be equipped with standard 4Motion all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
