New 2024 BMW 5 Series Sedan and Electric i5 Debut On May 24

For quite some time, the eighth-generation 5 Series from BMW has been in the works. The long-awaited unveiling is scheduled for later this month, on May 24th, when both the i5 battery-electric variant and the conventional 5 Series will be introduced to the world.

The base model will feature a singular rear-mounted drive motor, boasting an impressive 335 horsepower. In contrast, the M60 version ups the ante with a dual-motor configuration that delivers a formidable 590 hp. However, BMW remains tight-lipped regarding the torque output for these models. Similarly, details about battery capacity and range have been withheld, though the eDrive40 aims for an ambitious target of 295 miles.

For those not entirely sold on electric propulsion, BMW has alternatives in store. The 5 Series will be available with various powertrain options, including traditional combustion engines, plug-in hybrids, and electric variants. The M5 conversion, set to debut at a later, unspecified date, will sport a plug-in hybrid system capable of generating an astounding amount of power. This setup, which achieves up to 738 hp in the BMW XM Red Label, could potentially harness a substantial portion of that power for the sedan, ensuring an exhilarating driving experience.
