Hyundai Ioniq 5 N Winter Weather Testing in Sweden

Hyundai has been winter testing its forthcoming IONIQ 5 N, a high-performance, mass-production, all-electric N-brand model, at the Hyundai Mobis Proving Ground in Arjeplog, Sweden.

Although the Ioniq 5 N shares a platform with the Kia EV6 GT, it won’t resemble it in appearance. While the Kia generates 576 horsepower, the Hyundai’s dual-motor configuration is expected to produce approximately 600 hp, and it may also generate more torque than the Kia’s 564 pound-feet. The engineers at Hyundai’s performance N brand will modify many of the Ioniq 5’s components.

The IONIQ 5 N combines the brand’s electrified-global modular platform with N’s motorsport-bred technologies, such as N’s all-surface all-wheel-drive capabilities. It will be the first N-brand production vehicle with all-wheel drive. The vehicle’s corner-carving capability is bolstered by the N Drift Optimizer, which integrates front and rear torque distribution, suspension stiffness, steering effort and the electronic-limited slip differential system to create a driving mode dedicated to drifting. The electronic control unit monitors input from wheel sensors to improve handling during cornering and high-speed driving on the racetrack, and during adverse driving conditions, such as slick ice and deep snow. The IONIQ 5 N’s global debut is planned for July.
