In the heart of Denmark, renowned designer and architect Bruno Jakobsen has brought his dream home to life. Nestled amidst nature, his masterpiece is not only a personal retreat but also a source of inspiration for a growing community of followers. His two classic Porsche models, a 911 S 2.7 Targa and a 1960 Porsche Junior tractor, seem as if they were designed for this idyllic environment, blending seamlessly into the serene forest setting.
Jakobsen’s home, located just outside of Randers in the central Jutland region, reflects his deep appreciation for nature and architecture. The process of designing and building his house was meticulous. Bruno spent over a year studying the way natural light interacts with the space, ensuring that the illumination would be just right throughout the seasons. His dedication to getting every detail perfect paid off, with the final result being a home that complements the surrounding landscape beautifully.
The house, dubbed “The Nordic Barnhouse Project,” started taking shape in 2019. Over time, Jakobsen shared his journey on social media, drawing in more than 270,000 followers on Instagram. His family now lives in a longhouse nestled within the forest, complete with an orangery, a spacious garage, and most recently, the Barnhouse Box—an elegant garage designed specifically for his Porsche 911.
Jakobsen’s 911 S 2.7 Targa, a vintage car from 1974, holds a special place in his heart. Everything in the Barnhouse Box is inspired by the classic car, right down to the interior design. The room is filled with Porsche memorabilia, including steering wheels, fire extinguishers, and even a rear spoiler from a 911 Turbo. The car itself, with its brushed stainless steel roll bar, is bathed in natural light that filters through the trees surrounding the house, creating an atmosphere that reflects Jakobsen’s passion for timeless design. His attention to detail is evident even in his choice of accessories; he often wears traditional driving gloves when taking the car out for a spin.
The house’s design goes hand in hand with Jakobsen’s love for classic cars, but his passion for Porsche goes beyond just driving. He has had the 911 for over a decade, and it has become a part of his family’s memories. He recalls how his children, Silje and Tristan, used to fall asleep in the backseat on long drives, forming a bond with the brand that has only grown over the years. While his wife, Dorte, took a bit longer to warm up to the Porsche lifestyle, she now enjoys riding in the classic car herself.
To complement the Targa, Jakobsen added another classic Porsche to his collection: a fully restored 1960 Porsche Junior tractor. Though it is not your typical luxury vehicle, the tractor fits perfectly into Jakobsen’s rustic lifestyle. He often takes it out for joyrides, donning overalls he bought specifically for driving the vintage machine. The tractor shares a garage with the 911, surrounded by lush greenery, two goats, and three chickens that complete the family’s homestead.
Jakobsen’s love for natural materials is not only evident in his car collection but also in the way he built his house. Much of the home, including the outdoor shower, sauna, and pool area, is made of wood, specifically Canadian red cedar, which weathers beautifully over time. “Wood wears with time. It ages. And that’s exactly what makes it the ideal material,” Jakobsen says, adding that life always leaves a mark.
For Bruno Jakobsen, both his house and his Porsche models are meant to be used, not just admired. As he drives off into the forest in his 911, the connection between his passion for design and the joy of driving comes full circle, proving that some things only get better with time.
