2024 Volkswagen Touareg Rendered

Volkswagen is currently in the process of preparing a mid-cycle update for its Mk3 Touareg, and the Kolesa website has rendered some photos that predict what the new model may look like. The new and improved Touareg model, slated to have its world premiere at the beginning of May, has been previewed in teaser images that offer an unexpected level of detail.

One of the most striking features of the 2024 Touareg is the light bar on the rear that is designed to mimic other VW SUVs, including the recently updated Atlas and Atlas Cross Sport in North America. The broad light strip is complemented by a set of matrix headlights that are fitted with 38,400 micro LEDs, which can project lane guidance among other features.

The facelift also includes fresh wheel designs that come in sizes of up to 21 inches. The plug-in hybrid performance version boasts blue brake calipers with “R” branding. At the back of the car, the VW badge lights up, and the camouflage on the tailgate indicates that we can expect to see a light bar there as well. Depending on the model’s trim level, there will be modified front and rear bumpers.

As far as technology goes, there’s now a roof-mounted sensor that measures the added weight, up to 100 kilograms or 220 pounds, which is used to automatically adjust the electronic stability control system. Rear-wheel steering is available only on the non-R models, while both the standard steel and optional air suspensions have been revised. Additionally, the facelift includes an active anti-roll system and powertrains that promise a “new synthesis of comfort and performance.”

Despite the updates, output figures for the popular 3.0-liter V6 TDI remain unchanged. It will continue to be offered with 231 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque, as well as a more powerful configuration that is rated at 286 horsepower and 442 pound-feet of torque. If you prefer a gasoline engine, the 3.0-liter V6 is capable of producing 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque.

The Touareg eHybrid is Volkswagen’s electrified offering, capable of delivering a combined 381 horsepower and 443 pound-feet of torque. For those who desire more power, the Touareg R eHybrid boasts an output of 456 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. Both of the plug-in hybrids come with a 14.3-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that offers an electric range that is similar to the pre-facelift models, coming in at just under 30 miles.

No matter what type of powertrain you opt for, all Touareg models come standard with 4Motion all-wheel drive and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
