Captured testing, the forthcoming 911 Cabriolet, or the 992.2 for the true Porsche enthusiasts, emerges from the shadows. This revelation is not entirely new, as spy images of the convertible have been circulating for over a year. Furthermore, this particular prototype has graced our screens before in a video appearance. The visuals, nonetheless, offer an up a closer view of the modifications adorning the front and rear of this age-defying sports vehicle.
Upon closer inspection, the redesigned air intakes in the fascia become apparent. Retaining their rectangular form, horizontal slats bisect the intakes, lending a marginally fiercer appearance. The upper section of the intakes will boast a more pronounced curvature, as opposed to the previous squared design – some plastic camouflage is discernible on the left intake but absent on the right, unveiling the design. Active components are integrated here as well.
The rear of this prototype continues to be swathed in black tape, particularly around the taillight corners and the rear fascia. A tangle of black wrapping ensconces the space between the dual exhaust outlets, yet it fails to obscure the novel pipe configuration. This feature, previously mentioned, might hint at the most eagerly awaited alteration arriving with the 992.2 Carrera Cabriolet – a naturally aspirated powertrain, supposedly.
This exhaust arrangement bears a striking resemblance to that of the Porsche 718 Cayman GTS model, which employs a 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six engine. The Boxster GTS follows suit, and ever since we initially detected this exhaust design on the 911 more than a year ago, rumors have run rampant. According to our spy informants, Porsche executives are keen on reintroducing naturally aspirated engines to the lineup; however, confirmation remains elusive.
While the precise unveiling date remains undisclosed, the event is fast approaching. These prototypes have been subjected to extensive public testing, and we anticipate this phase to conclude later in the year.
