2024 Hyundai Kona Doesn’t Gain Power But Will Be Larger

Hyundai has recently unveiled its latest subcompact SUV, the 2024 Kona, which sports a fresh, new look, but does not seem to come with any major changes under the hood. The engine options for the new model, which include a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter inline-four and a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four, remain unchanged from the previous version.

The base engine in the new Kona is still a 2.0-liter inline-four, capable of producing 147 horsepower, which is paired with a continuously variable automatic transmission. A more powerful turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-four will be available, which is expected to feature on the sportier N Line model, and will produce the same 195 horsepower and 195 pound-feet of torque as before. Hyundai has not yet confirmed the transmission for this engine, but it was previously paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. There are also rumors of a high-performance Kona N model, which is expected to produce 286 horsepower, but there is no official word on that yet.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Kona will have a hybrid version, although it is uncertain whether it will be available in the United States or not. The hybrid model comes equipped with a 1.6-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor, which together produce a total of 139 horsepower, similar to what is available on the Kia Niro. A Kona Electric model is also expected to return, but its specifications have not yet been released.

In terms of size, the 2024 Kona is larger than its predecessor, with a 2.3-inch longer wheelbase and a 5.7-inch longer overall length. This improvement in size is expected to result in better rear-seat room and increased cargo space. The interior of the new Kona will also feature dual 12.3-inch display screens, which will be available on higher trim levels.

More details about the 2024 Kona are expected to be released later in the year by Hyundai, as the company reveals more information about the United States-spec version of the car. For now, interested consumers can check out the available photos of the new Kona to get an idea of what the new generation of this small crossover looks like both inside and out.
