2023 BMW XM Label Red Debuts As The Most Powerful Model Ever With 738 Horsepower

Bavaria’s apex model materializes as a grandiose SUV. Introducing the XM, adorned in its fiery Label Red avatar, a 201.2-inch behemoth poised on 23-inch wheels, set to make its grand appearance at Auto Shanghai 2023 in China next week.

The standard XM possesses a respectable 644 horsepower and 590 pound-feet (800 Newton-meters) of torque. In contrast, the Label Red variant raises the stakes, boasting an immense 738 hp and 738 lb-ft. The vehicle is powered by an enhanced version of the “S68” engine, a cutting-edge twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 that cooperates seamlessly with an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed automatic transmission. This impressive force is channeled through the xDrive system, equipped with a Sand mode for conquering dunes.

The muscular combustion engine alone generates 577 hp and 553 lb-ft, augmenting the standard model by 94 hp and 74 lb-ft. Meanwhile, the electric motor contributes an additional 194 hp and 207 lb-ft, paralleling the base XM. Analogous to the fundamental model, a pre-gearing stage elevates the peak torque to 332 lb-ft at the transmission input for the motor.

Thanks to the newly acquired power, BMW claims the XM Label Red can rocket to 60 mph in a mere 3.7 seconds, which is four-tenths faster than the ordinary version. The vehicle is electronically restricted to a maximum velocity of 155 mph or 175 mph when equipped with the M Driver’s Package, making the exclusive edition 7 mph swifter than the standard XM with the same optional enhancement.

Distinguishing the Label Red from the customary XM, BMW embellishes the side and the imposing kidney grille with Toronto Red accents. Furthermore, red inserts grace the wheels and the diffuser’s outline. The XM emblems and brake calipers also adopt the red hue. Buyers can choose from over 50 Individual paint options at no extra cost, as opposed to the default Brooklyn Grey metallic. A “small number” of units will be available in Frozen Carbon Black matte exterior paint, an exclusive offering from the Munich-based automaker.

The cabin flaunts red accents as well, with a “1/500” inscription signifying the model’s limited production. The two-tone leather upholstery is unique to the XM Label Red, as is the Boost Mode symbol on the left-hand shift paddle. Additionally, the satin-finished carbon fiber trim strip is exclusive to this special edition.

Post its debut at Auto Shanghai 2023, the XM Label Red will commence production in August at the Spartanburg facility in South Carolina. Although pricing information will be revealed closer to the launch, expect a significant premium over the $159,000 base price for the standard XM.
